funding for undergraduate research

A competitive program for funding of undergraduate research in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources provided by a joint effort of the Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station and the office of Academic Programs.

This program will support research conducted by undergraduates who are in one of our college programs and is conducting independent research directed toward solving current problems related to our strategic initiatives, agriculture in the broad sense of the word and/or the natural resources of Maryland. Priority will be given to studies that seek to integrate fundamental gains in our knowledge base with an application to solving problems in Maryland and beyond.

TO APPLY: Applications will consist of:
  1. A one-page summary written by the STUDENT of the goals of the project, the methods to be used and the expected application of the results.
  2. A paragraph indicating how it will contribute to at least one of the five STRATEGIC INITIATIVES of the college.
  3. A budget, not to exceed $1500 per project. Eligible expenses include funds for STUDENT supplies, small equipment and travel. Funds may not be used for faculty salary or travel.
  4. A letter of support from the student’s research advisor. This may or may not be the student’s academic advisor.

Funding for up to five projects will be available by February 15, and must be used or
encumbered (for subsequent student travel) by June 30, 2023.
