SCDNR is looking to hire a seasonal NABat technician to run acoustic surveys in SC in 2023. SCDNR NABat Technician Position

Start date: March 20, 2023

Duration: 6 months. End date Sep 15, 2023

Salary: $14/hr, 40 hrs/week

Location: Clemson, SC

Position description: The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) seasonal North American Bat Monitoring Program (NABat) technician will run the statewide NABat acoustics project for South Carolina in 2023. Duties include communicating and working with approximately 40 volunteers and partners to place stationary acoustic bat monitoring equipment at pre-defined sites, conducting acoustic mobile surveys, entering and managing data, assisting with bat call analysis, and submitting to the NABat and South Carolina Heritage Trust databases. Training for acoustic analysis software and basic manual vetting of bat calls will be provided.

SCDNR vehicle provided. Housing and $35 per diem will be provided when overnight stays outside of the Clemson area are needed. Field season will run from mid-May to mid-July.

Minimum Requirements: Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area OR at least 1 year of related experience. Applicants must be able to work independently and have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants should be able to independently manage a logistically complex project, travel statewide, hike and carry equipment in remote and challenging field conditions, follow NABat protocols, use Microsoft Office and enter data. Preference given to candidates with acoustic bat monitoring experience.
