POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Extension Educator is responsible for organizing, developing, implementing and evaluating educational programs
with youth, families and communities working through volunteers who provide experiential learning opportunities for
youth for the development of life skills. The educator is also responsible for conducting an aggressive recruitment
campaign of volunteers and youth. As a tenure track position, the Educator will be responsible for coordinating cluster
focused youth development programs in cooperation with colleagues in the Capital Cluster (Prince George’s and Anne
Arundel Counties) and conducting programs with measureable outcomes in order to fulfill tenure track scholarship
This position is closely aligned with the UME-1890 Program within University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) and as
such, demonstrable program accomplishments will be expected that align with the 1890 Program mission via counsel
with the 1890 Extension Administrator. Supervision of this position will be by the Area Extension Director and State 4-H
Program Leader, with additional programmatic reporting to the 1890 Extension Administrator or his/her designee.
The Extension Educator represents University of Maryland Extension (UME), the University of Maryland Eastern Shore
and the University of Maryland at College Park.
Develop, implement and evaluate the 4-H youth development program in Prince George’s County and the
Coordinate and implement experiential learning programs to address initiatives and focus areas of Maryland 4-
H and University of Maryland Extension.
Expand 4-H outreach programs through in-school, after-school, community center and camp programs
including the Center for Educational Partnership (CEP) to expand capacity for positive youth development
Conduct needs assessments, outreach and marketing for diverse audiences in Prince George’s County and the
Serve as coordinating faculty member for county focused 4-H programs offered at University of Maryland
Oversee UME adult volunteer management system and the UME Volunteer Policy process, including
recruitment, screening, training and recognition of adult volunteer contributions.
Establish and maintain good working relationships with community organizations and partners, the faith-based
community, local government and non-profit organizations to benefit youth development and adult
volunteers. Promote positive public relations with stakeholders in the community.
Increase resources through grants, local funding sources, collaborative partnerships and other funding
opportunities to support and expand youth development programs in Prince George’s County and the
Serve as liaison to the Patuxent River 4-H Center Foundation and work with other educators and staff in
planning, promoting, teaching and managing outdoor education and camp experiences.
Master’s degree in youth development, education, life sciences or related field.
At least 2 years’ experience working with youth and volunteers.
Demonstrated teaching and leadership skills.
Willingness to work flexible hours, with some evenings, weekends and holidays, and to travel within assigned
Personal reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required.
When offered employment by UME, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a clear background
check by the State of Maryland and FBI before beginning work assignment.
Experience in program management, evaluation, and grant writing and management.
Demonstrated success in building collaborative partnerships and successful engagement with limited resource
Experience in volunteer recruitment and training.
Ability to speak and understand Spanish.
Salary will be commensurate with experience, with base salary of $49,575. The University of Maryland offers an
