Environmental Education Internship - apply by April 15

Environmental Education Internship

Description:

The Audubon Naturalist Society is one of many potential Host sites for the 2016-17
Chesapeake Conservation Corps service year. The Corps Program provides hands-on
environmental, leadership and green job training opportunities for young adults through
environmental, community engagement and energy conservation projects. This initiative,
supported by the Trust, Constellation Energy, the National Park Service and the state of
Maryland, places young adults 18-25 with nonprofit or government agencies to work full time
in the environmental field for a one-year term of service beginning on August 23, 2016 in the
Chesapeake Bay region ($16,000 annual stipend).

Roles and Responsibilities:

If successfully matched with The Audubon Naturalist Society, the Corps Member will
be trained to design and lead a wide variety of environmental education programs for pre-K to
grade 12 children, including in-school and afterschool programs, field trips, camps, and family
programs. ANS is the oldest, independent environmental organization in the Washington, DC
Metro area. Each year, we reach nearly 28,000 people through environmental education for all
ages and programs to conserve our region’s clean water supplies and healthy stream
ecosystems. The Corps Member would be based at our Woodend Sanctuary in Chevy Chase,
Maryland and, if interested, may help with restoration of the sanctuary’s watershed.  Additional
training opportunities include participation in Stream Monitoring classes, Master Naturalist
classes, and Natural History Field Studies, as well as attendance at conferences related to
environmental education and watershed stewardship.  The Volunteer will gain experience
appropriate for a position at a nature center, outdoor education program, aquarium or zoo.
