Now Hiring Organic Vegetable Production Assistant at Unity Church Hill Nursery
Unity Church Hill Nursery is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and is a
retail nursery operation with a focus on providing sustainable products,
native plants and, for the past two years, small scale food production. The
nursery is situated on 44 acres and is also the base for our Landscape Design/
Build business which is focused on shoreline restoration work and design/build
of environmentally friendly landscape projects. The food production is
currently operating on 1.5 acres with a focus on minimal till, organic
production of diversified fruit and vegetables to serve our local, direct
retail market through a farm stand, farmers’ market and sales to local grocers
and restaurants.
Job Description:
The farm assistant will help with all aspects of food
production and marketing from composting, field preparation, transplant
production, planting, weeding, pest management, managing crops in all growth
stages, harvesting, marketing, sales, events and activities at the farm and
recordkeeping. They may also assist with grounds maintenance and nursery
operations.
Qualifications:
- Applicant must have a minimum of 1 year experience in all aspects of food
production and sales on a small scale organic produce farm.
- Must possess the passion to produce food using organic production methods
- Demonstrate excellent communications skills to work with customers and
integrate the farm with the local community
-This is a physical job requiring strenuous outdoor work in all weather (good
knees and backs are a must). Some weekend/holiday hours are required. Must
have a valid driver’s license with a clean record.
Job Type:
Full-time. Starting April and continuing year-round based on a 48-
week work year.
Compensation will be based on experience, length of commitment, and degree of
responsibility. An on-farm, private, single family dwelling with hot water,
washer/dryer, full-kitchen and yard will be provided as partial compensation
for the position.
