Strength To Love Farm Seeking Farm Manager

General Purpose of Position:

Coordinates actives associated with planting, cultivating, fertilizing and harvesting row crops. Also, maintenance and up keep of farm equipment

Essential Duties of the Farm Manager:

·         Planting crops in hoop houses
·         Fertilizing fields
·         Harvesting crops out of hoop houses
·         Analyze soil to determine best seed and fertilizer plan to maximize production
·         Inspect fields to determine maturity dates of crops
·         Coordinate growing intentions with Program Director and Sales Manager along with weekly pick list
·         Analyze capital needs (equipment, supplies, seed, fertilizer, etc)
·         Direct the farm workers to accomplish the skills and training of farming
·         Maintain farm data collection systems, files and records and provide reports when needed
·         Monitor the quality of harvested produce and ensure that only acceptable quality produce is prepared for sale.
·         Volunteer Coordination
·         Staff Training

Preferred Experience
·         Two years' experience working on farm. Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management principles and practices, plant propagation and culture methods, soil and growth media preparation. Working knowledge of fertilizers and pesticides, including how, why, and when to apply, relevant safety and legal requirements and correct use of related equipment.

Preferred Education
·         Horticulture or related field, with complete course work in plant physiology, plant anatomy, genetics, botany, and chemistry, or equivalent Master Gardner Certification, combination of education and experience. Technical skills be familiar with and preferably able to operate equipment such as seeder, harvester irrigation, tiller, plug board, scale, and computer. The manager is expected to hold a valid Maryland State driver's license. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, work in high temperatures during summer months and cold during winter. Requires the ability to work weekends, holidays, as hoop houses operation must be maintained 7 days a week. Must be able to work during periods of adverse weather and during emergencies
