Red Tree Farmstead - Part-Time Job Opening

Red Tree Farmstead needs a dynamic, committed, and enthusiastic person who can assist with most daily operations of a diverse farmstead - including vegetable and flower production, laying chicken care and husbandry, and perennial crop maintenance. This position will also require work with the CSA program and attendance at our farmers' markets.

Requirements / Compensation: $12.00/hr  plus 5% commission at market.
 20 – 30 hours a week depending on time of year; some weekend market work necessary The farm assistant will work closely with the farmers at Red Tree Farmstead to learn and execute most daily operations at Red Tree Farmstead. This includes all elements of greenhouse seedling production, much harvesting and post-harvest handling of produce and flowers, as well as most elements of fieldwork: planting, weeding, machine work, and field deconstruction. The farm assistant will also be expected to work at a few markets per month, and potentially more depending on the needs of the farmers. Some chicken care and husbandry may also be required for this position.

The farm assistant should come to work with the following qualifications:

  • Willingness to learn and dedication to the position
  • Ability to communicate personal and farm needs appropriately to the farmers
  • Flexibility in hours: part-time but willing and able to take on more as the season and farmers need
  • Reliability when required and needed on the farm
  • When working markets, the farm assistant is expected to be presentable, personable, and professional
  • Willingness to engage in physical activity, work in all weather conditions, and ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to follow safety rules, GAP rules, and Standard Operating Procedures as directed by the farmers The farm assistant will be asked to fulfill the following roles:
Markets:

  • Knowledgeable interaction with the public, willingness to learn about the products to relate to customers
  • Interest in display and aesthetics of the farm stand
  • Ability to make change on the fly
  • Being friendly and engaging; professionally represent the brand of RTF
  • Have a smartphone for credit card sales
  • Willingness and ability to drive the market van
