The Brandywine Conservancy announces the availability of an internship with its Land Stewardship Program. The Land Stewardship Intern will assist the easement management team with monitoring, administering, and enforcing the 469 conservation easements held by the Brandywine Conservancy, as well as related projects. Applicants should have an academic background in environmental science, ecology, land management, land planning or a related field. They should be organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently with little supervision, and should have a positive, energetic attitude.

Duties:

  • Assist easement management team with on-site monitoring of eased lands
  • Maintain field notes and prepare inspection reports in an Access database
  • Assist in the research, administration and organization of easement records
  • Perform administrative tasks as assigned
  • Contribute to publications as assigned


Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to read and interpret maps and orient oneself in the field
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions, including the ability to walk long distances through varying terrain and vegetation
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Access to a reliable personal vehicle required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software required
  • Knowledge of land management practices and conservation easements desired
  • Experience with Microsoft Access and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) desired


The internship will last approximately ten weeks, beginning in May, and will be compensated at the rate of $15 an hour. Housing is not available.
