MaryLee Everett Conservation Fellowship

As part of a high-profile initiative to collect and bank the seeds of all the globally rare and endangered plant species in New England, the Society is offering a 26-week fellowship in its Conservation Department. The MaryLee Everett Conservation Fellow will work with staff to:
- Track rare species populations and develop maps using GIS
- Determine priority occurrences for seed collection
- Collect seed from selected occurrences throughout New England
- Prepare and process seed for long-term seed banking
- Collect data and manage the database
The Fellow will be expected to travel throughout New England collecting seed of designated populations of rare plants and must be able to work independently for long days in rough terrain and inclement weather. Candidates must be willing to use their own vehicle for field work (travel expenses and mileage will be reimbursed).
SKILLS
Candidates should have demonstrated field experience identifying New England flora, preferably rare species. Experience using GIS and shape files is a must. Experience in collecting seed for seed banking is preferred, as is familiarity with the Natural Heritage data process.
DETAILS
The Fellowship: This is a temporary, full-time position (40 hours/week) for 26 weeks.
Compensation: $13.50 per hour, plus free optional housing (which, if accepted, is taxed as a benefit valued at $125/week).
