Duration: June – August 2016
Hours: 20 hours per week; primarily Thursday – Saturday
This unpaid internship provides a unique, guided learning experience for individuals pursuing careers in environmental science, environmental outreach, etc. College credit may be earned depending on your school’s policies. Please contact your school for more information on college credit options and requirements.

Summary and Duties:

  • Under supervision and guidance of Water Quality staff, the intern will learn how to:
  • Collect survey data and conduct background research on Galveston Bay boating industry
  • Input and analyze survey data for GBF’s Dockwalker Program
  • Operate successful water quality outreach programs and campaigns (i.e. Rain Barrel Workshops, Cease the Grease Campaign, Pump Don’t Dump Campaign)
  • Lead water quality outreach booths, presentations, and workshops

Qualifications and Skills:
Current university student working toward degree in water resource management, environmental science, environmental education, or a related field
Proficiency with software including Microsoft Word and Excel, and with internet research
Experience with data collection, entry, and analysis
Passion for improving water quality and working with the public; familiarity with the boating industry a plus
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and manage productive relationships with staff, consultants, partners, and the community; must work well in a team-oriented environment
Ability to work independently, once trained
Valid driver’s license

The Galveston Bay Foundation office is located in Webster, TX, in the Clear Lake area of Houston, approximately 25 minutes south of downtown Houston.
