Environmental Engineer - Beaver Water District

Location: Lowell, MA

Description:
Beaver Water District is currently seeking an Environmental Engineer whose primary responsibilities include managing multiple special projects pertaining to source water protection through environmental monitoring, modeling, data analysis, and research. The Environmental Engineer is the primary contact/support for watershed and reservoir monitoring studies and research projects and works to further the goals of the source water protection program and provide technical capacity to solve environmental and treatment problems. The qualified candidate will possess 2-4 years of professional experience in the design and implementation of environmental monitoring and assessment projects including the collection, analysis and interpretation of water quality and other natural resource data.

Job Summary:
Write and review proposals, work collaboratively with team members and outside agencies and participates in a broad range of environmental, technical and scientific tests, studies, assessments and monitoring programs.
Provide technical assistance in the evaluation and implementation of the Beaver Water District Source Water Protection Program such as creation of GIS databases, compilation and analysis of GIS data on land use and related impacts to the water resource.
Provide monthly informational reports on plant performance, water quality and environmental quality for BWD management.
Update source water assessment and evaluate the impact of short term land change scenarios on source water quality.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in engineering. Master degree in engineering preferred.
  • Licensed P. E. – Professional Engineer (obtained or working towards)
  • Familiarity with most widely used GIS software and water quality models such as IC-Water, CE-QUAL-W2, SWAT, Vollenweider, and others.
  • Previous supervisory experience sufficient to successfully direct a field monitoring crew of 2-4 persons.
  • At least four (4) years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience with the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
  • Grade IV Water Treatment License (have or obtain within 24 months) as issued by the Arkansas Dept. of Health
  • Working knowledge of State and Federal environmental laws and regulations including but not limited to the Safe Drinking Water Act and related state regulations.
  • Ability to parameterize, calibrate, validate, and use environmental models.
  • Familiar with the design and implementation of water quality instrumentation systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in deriving and applying technical information and conclusions to strategies for water treatment, environmental protection, and control of water treatment by-products.
  • Demonstrated research and analytical skills and familiarity with scientific data analysis methods.
