In partnership with National Taiwan University, explore, analyze and learn about biodiversity, agriculture and culture in Taiwan. Through hands-on activities, field trips and lectures, students will acquire a broad knowledge of the country's agriculture, biodiversity, and culture. At the end of their time abroad students will more fully understand global biodiversity and agriculture as well as have an increased understanding and appreciation for Taiwanese culture.

FRANCE: From the farm to the table... A Sustainable Food System

The Groupe ESA Summer Program Shows students links between agriculture, food industry and food culture with a sustainable development perspective. The program will also introduce them to the “French way of life” and to France's role in the European Union.
From production to consumers, the program will allow students to understand the “terroir” production through several angles such as History, Sociology, Anthropology, Political, Economy, Science, Food science, Crop production and Agroecology and Animal Production. Instruction is in English.

ITALY: Landscape Architecture, Architecture and Music (all majors welcome)
Come and explore the common language of architecture and music as we travel through six Italian cities learning about public open spaces, architectural monuments, music, and culture. This course is open to all majors and includes many historic, cultural, built, and natural sites and monuments. Investigate Italy through the study of historical town planning, public piazzas, landscape architecture, music, and architecture, in this three-week course sponsored by the Dept. of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture. You will travel throughout cities in Italy including Rome, Sorrento, Verona, Venice, and San Remo. Musical performances, tours, and many historic sites and cities are included in this fast paced, exciting course. COSTA RICA: Sustainable Futures (only Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Studies and Planning, and Civil Engineering majors are eligible to apply)
This ten-week summer course of study is designed to offer you the opportunity to live and work on ecological and social projects in a rural, but rapidly developing region in Costa Rica - the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve. This multi-disciplinary program is designed for various disciplines, including architecture, planning, landscape architecture, resource management, and international development. You will participate in a seminar on sustainable development, work with community residents on various projects, participate in programs hosted by the Monteverde Institute, enroll in Spanish language classes, and take an intensive studio/internship with one of the many organizations in the Monteverde zone working toward sustainability. In addition, there will be a series of lectures and field trips to local cooperatives, ecologically managed farms, and various forest reserves.
