2018 Summer Internship - Two Positions Available
Job Title: Agricultural Non-point Source Pollution Analysis Intern
Location: US Environmental Protection Agency, Chesapeake Bay Program Office, 410 Severn Avenue, Annapolis, MD
Job Summary: The successful candidate will be employed by the University of Maryland's department of Environmental Science & Technology, and will work directly with the Coordinator for Policy Analysis and the Senior Agricultural Advisor at the Chesapeake Bay Program office in Annapolis, MD. The Agricultural Non-point Source Analysis Intern will support the multi-organizational Chesapeake Bay Program partnership's ongoing mission to analyze agricultural technical data, programs and policies in an effort to provide science-based recommendations aimed at restoring and protecting the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: The intern will contribute to the Chesapeake Bay Program's research efforts through the following tasks:
- Compile existing data pertaining to crop and animal production across the Chesapeake Bay watershed
- Analyze data for potential use in water quality monitoring programs
- Produce graphics showing data trends through time
- Prepare reports and present findings
Minimum Qualifications: A UMD student with the following skills is a desirable candidate:
- Ability to master statistical analysis techniques
- Experience summarizing data findings from published, peer-reviewed literature.
- Basic understanding of ecological systems. Exposure to agricultural crop and animal production management systems is desirable
- Basic understanding of soil science as it pertains to crop and animal production
- Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge in geographic information systems such as ArcGIS is not required, but preferable
Physical Demands: Position requires computer and desk work
Anticipated Position Duration: May 30th 2018 - August 15th 2018 (approximate)
Compensation/Hours: $11.36/hr, 40 hrs/week
