Water Intern - WSP: Baltimore, MD

Position Description:

WSP has an opening in its Baltimore, Maryland office for an Intern I for Summer 2018 (May - August 2018) with the potential to extend part-time into Fall 2018. Key work activities include supporting a variety of water resource projects including watershed assessment/planning, stream restoration assessment and design, stormwater management site assessment and BMP design, storm network design/flood control, erosion and sediment control design/permitting, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, climate change adaptation and implementation tasks, and plan/specification/estimate package preparation.

Job Duties Include:

  • Assist more experienced staff in the execution of a variety of water planning and design projects
  • Assist with field work
  • Assist in analysis of project data
  • Assist with project research
  • Perform basic calculations
  • Assisting in preparing contract documents
  • Prepare materials for presentations or client meetings
  • Document research and field investigations
  • Use various types of CAD design software
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education Required:
Completed two years of college in a four or five year program majoring in Environmental Science or Civil Engineering, Biological or Ecological Engineering with an emphasis in water resources by the start of the internship

CURRENT standing as a Sophomore, Junior or Senior student actively enrolled in an accredited Undergraduate Program. (Those who have already completed degree studies do not qualify as candidates for this or any of our internships.)

Preferred Experience/Skills:
Demonstrated some experience in water resource or a related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related water resource planning and design

Strong analytical skills

Strong working knowledge of MS Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills

Desired Qualifications:
GIS and CADD skills

Affiliations with professional societies and active community involvement
