Internship Opportunities with WSP - Summer 2018

Position Description:

This opportunity is available for a college student in good standing working towards a degree in Environmental Science or Natural -related field within an accredited program. This would be for approximately 3 months over the summer break (June-August 2018). The candidate will gain experience in the implementation of transportation projects located in the Baltimore- Washington, D.C. area. The candidate will also gain an understanding of various environmental policies associated with Maryland transportation agencies and have the opportunity to enhance technical field skills and desktop processing of related data. This is an opportunity to learn the interconnectedness of agencies that play a role in environmental protection and transportation engineering.

Major Tasks and Duties will include:

  • Assist more experienced staff in broader related activities
  • Assist in analysis of project data
  • Prepare materials for presentations or client meetings
  • Assist with project research
  • Perform basic calculations
  • Perform routine Planning/Environmental functions
  • Assist with field work
  • Assist in preparing contract documents
  • Document research and field investigations
  • Use various types of GIS design software
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated some experience in Environment- related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to transportation and other infrastructure projects.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of basic planning/environmental theories and principles
Preferred Experience:
  • GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
  • Adobe Creative Suite CS5 (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
Required Education:
  • Three years of college in a four or five year program majoring in Environmental Science, or -related field. 
  • CURRENT standing as a Senior student actively enrolled in an accredited (or related) Undergraduate Program. (Those who have already completed degree studies do not qualify as candidates for this or any of our internships.)
  • The ability to work in the United States immediately.
