Versar, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Scientist to work out of our Corporate Headquarters in Springfield, VA. Primary responsibilities will include managing teams of scientists and engineers supporting environmental research and regulatory programs for Federal regulatory agencies such as EPA and FDA, addressing topics related to toxic chemicals, pesticides, and food safety. Duties will involve management of projects and staff in conducting literature searches, compiling and analyzing environmental data using spreadsheets and databases, documenting methods used, and generating tables, charts, and technical reports to communicate results to the client. |
Requirements | An educational background or working familiarity with the following concepts is desirable: environmental data analysis, exposure and risk assessment; fate and transport analysis and/or modeling tools for toxic chemicals and/or pesticides; food safety; environmental conference/meeting facilitation hands-on experience. In addition, experience managing projects, staff, and client interaction is required. Candidates should have 8-10 years of experience managing projects in the field of environmental science and/or engineering. Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (chemistry, biology, toxicology, or public health) Experience managing projects and proposals for Federal clients (e.g., EPA, FDA) is preferred Proficiency with MS Office applications and ability to conduct data analysis (including simple statistical analyses) in Microsoft Excel; Strong analytical and data management skills; Strong written and oral communication skills; Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; and Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and capable of obtaining government security clearance and/or Common Access Card (CAC) Candidates should have 8-10 years of working experience managing projects and staff in the field of environmental science and/or engineering. Experience with Federal clients (e.g., EPA, FDA) is preferred. Additional experience required includes management the development and use of databases, models, and other risk assessment and decision analysis tools. These include tools to evaluate fate and transport of contaminants, exposure and hazard/risk assessment of chemicals, and related efforts. Experience is also desired in scientific peer review and workshop coordination and other office-related tasks.
