Sustainable Water and Energy in Costa Rica Undergraduate Opportunity

***Michigan State University’s “Engineering Biological Solutions for Clean Energy and Water” is now accepting applications for Summer 2017.***

Access to energy and clean water is essential to guarantee quality of life globally.  The sustainability of our society depends largely on maximizing utilization of all natural resources, including those that are generally considered waste.  Therefore, the overall goal of this program is to provide undergraduate students from the U.S. experience in researching integrated treatment systems for sustainable energy and water reclamation in Costa Rica. This program is funded by the National Science Foundation International Research Experiences for Students program grant 1358110.

Undergraduate students participate in 10 weeks of research at the Universdad de Costa Rica from May to August.  Each participant is paired up with a UCR faculty advisor, whom will work with them throughout the summer .  We are currently recruiting our third cohort of students for the Summer 2017 program.  Project topics and more information are available at: https://msunsfires.wordpress.com/
To apply to the program, please submit:

§  A cover letter outlining why you are interested in the program, what you will bring to the program, and your past experiences in research and travel.
§  A transcript (unofficial is permissible)
§  Contact information for three references

The above should submitted as one document (.doc or .pdf) to msuires@egr.msu.edu.  The deadline for Summer 2017 applicants is November 21, 2016 at 10 pm EST.
