Urban Community Engagement Coordinator - Atlanta, GA

Position Summary: 
The Coordinator will work with members of the Fund’s staff, partners from community-based organizations and others on developing new and improved existing parks, greenways, community gardens and other green infrastructure projects. Historically disadvantaged neighborhoods and populations will be prioritized in selecting project locations, and authentic engagement of residents and local organizations is critical to generating projects that provide environmental, economic and social benefits. The Coordinator will represent the Fund in working with community representatives, municipal officials and a wide range of other partners including representatives from business and professional entities, philanthropies, federal and state government, and other environmental and social purpose organizations. The Coordinator will also assist in helping the Fund’s staff understand the importance of this work for conservation in the 21st century United States.

Responsibilities: 
  • Organizing training sessions and meetings of all types, including event planning, logistics, and content development with Fund staff, especially Urban Parks with Purpose Associate, Urban Conservation Manager, and community partners.
  • Represent the Fund and its interests in meetings with community, municipal and other partners and stakeholders and with technical experts, representatives of funders, and state and federal agencies.
  • Work closely with community partners and Fund staff to ensure economic and social benefits are incorporated into urban park and greenspace projects.
  • Assist in developing program support.
  • Assist in developing reports for funders and partners.
  • Assist in planning, internal and external communications work, including development of marketing materials and web/social media content for park projects and partners.


Desired Background: 
  • College graduate or equivalent relevant job-related experience (e.g., community organizing, non-profit leadership, etc.)
  • High degree of cultural competency and demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated writing and presentation abilities, including ability to research, articulate and support ideas, and ability to develop related materials.
  • Passion for social, economic and environmental justice particularly for historically disadvantaged communities or population groups.
  • Efficiency with Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint is a must. Proficiency with Publisher, Photoshop, InDesign, or other graphics programs strongly desired.


Requirements:
Ability to travel locally and out-of-town independently with occasional overnight stays required.
Physical ability to safely walk on uneven ground (for example, natural areas) and lift light objects.
Ability to utilize typical office technology, e.g., computer/word processing equipment, telephone, photocopying, email/online research
