Position Purpose:
The Watershed Restoration Coordinator will assist the University of Maryland Sea Grant Extension (UME) Watershed Restoration Specialists to coordinate and manage programs and develop activities and outreach materials, such as videos, fact sheets and educational brochures related to the University of Maryland Sea Grant Extension Watershed Protection and Restoration Program to include the Watershed Steward Academies (WSA).
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in organizing, developing, managing, and implementing UME Sea Grant Watershed Stewards Academy volunteer training programs.
- Build and maintain a statewide Steward database and reporting structure
- Provide administrative support for existing and new academies
- Assist with marketing and promotion
- Coordinate continuing education opportunities and an annual conference
- Assist with the implementation, development, and reporting of the Watershed Protection and Restoration Program in cooperation with the statewide Watershed Restoration Specialists and Maryland Sea Grant Extension.
- Collect planning and reporting information from Watershed Restoration Specialists and assist the UME Program leader in completing reporting requirements for Maryland Sea Grant and Maryland DNR.
- Assist Watershed Restoration Specialists with gathering background information and other supporting documents for competitive grants.
- Assist Watershed Restoration Specialists with long term sustainability planning.
- Coordinate and assist in developing educational materials such as videos, fact sheets, web resources, and educational materials.
- Collect information and write articles on success stories and accomplishments of the Watershed
- Protection and Restoration Program and WSAs and provide input to newsletters, web sites and local news media.
- Coordinate and assist in uploading educational materials and current events into web sites and
- social media outlets.
- Assist Watershed Restoration Specialists with long term sustainability planning.
- Assist Watershed Restoration Specialists with gathering background information and other supporting documents for competitive grants.
Qualifications:
Required–
- B.S. degree in Environmental Science, biology, planning, communication, education, or related field.
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to write effectively.
- Strong computer skills required in MS Office Suite.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to contribute and manage online content.
- Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends.
- Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
- This position is subject to a Criminal History Record Check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion and clearance of the Criminal History Record Check.
Preferred –
- Experience with website management.
Physical Demands of the Position:
- This position frequently presents information through verbal and written communication to individuals of various ages, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds. The ability to express or exchange ideas verbally is important, as well as the ability to hear and perceive information at normal spoken work levels.
- A routine part of this position’s responsibilities would be to transport materials to and from teaching/event locations, including loading and unloading the vehicle. The employee will frequently lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds. Set-up and tear-down of displays, tables, and chairs would be necessary at many teaching sites.
- Environmental conditions vary. Primary work will occur in an office, but the employee may also be visiting demonstration sites or attend programs or events. This may occur during very hot and/or inclement weather.
- Visual acuity is required to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal for extensive reading and website design.
Salary & Benefits:
Salary commensurate with experience, with a base salary of $49,600 per year. The University of Maryland offers an extensive benefits package. The position is a 12-month full-time contract that may be renewed annually, based on performance and funding.
