Description:
The Department of Environmental Studies at San José State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position.

Duties: 
Primary teaching responsibilities include the Environmental Studies core, life sciences and environmental restoration courses, graduate courses, and other courses in the applicant’s specialties. Undergraduate program responsibilities include advising majors and minors, supervising undergraduate and graduate student research, and directing special projects. Position includes active supervision of original Master of Science thesis research, including having regular meetings with advisees. Active pursuit of research and scholarly activities resulting in peer- reviewed products is required. Effective teaching, scholarly professional achievements and service are all essential for tenure and promotion.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have a strong background in quantitative research methods and should have applied their training to environmental theory and applied problem-solving. Connections to environmental economics, impact assessment, sustainable energy resources, GIS and/or international or multicultural experience would be considered assets. The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to teaching in an interdisciplinary undergraduate/graduate Environmental Studies Department. Applicants must demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a highly diverse student population, as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching or comparable experience. Applicants should have a clearly defined research program that has and will continue to produce peer-reviewed publications and demonstrate initiative in seeking external funding to support research and related activities.
