Description:
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Forest Service, is currently accepting applications for a Long-Term Contractual Natural Resources Planner I. This position will coordinate tracking and implementation of forestry actions that improve water quality and habitat in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay watershed. The position works with the Chesapeake Bay Program Forestry Work Group to further goals for forest buffers,habitat, and urban tree canopy, and with DNR foresters to support other forest restoration and conservation efforts such as forest planning with local governments, source water protection, mineland planting, habitat restoration, landscape stewardship, and ecosystem markets. Job duties include riparian forest buffer planting and maintenance, forest management plans, and managing databases for reporting forestry best management practices to the Chesapeake Bay Program. The Chesapeake Watershed Forester position has statewide responsibilities and some travel within the Chesapeake Bay region. The position is full-time, 40 hours/week, and may involve occasional weekend or evening hours for meetings or events such as volunteer tree plantings.
Qualifications:
- Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management or development.
- Experience: None.
- Forestry or Natural Resources Planning degree and/or experience
- Geographic Information System classes or experience
- Possession of a valid Maryland Driver's License
