Natural Resources Specialist - AECOM

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, creative, highly talented Natural Resources Specialist for immediate employment. The primary work location is Richmond, Virginia, but with 20 offices throughout DC Metro, Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia, we will consider excellent candidates interested in our other office locations.
AECOM is growing the Impact Assessment & Permitting Department in DC Metro. The department focuses on environmental impact assessment, regulatory compliance, natural resources management, cultural resources management, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, and environmental permitting. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience conducting natural resources related field surveys and assessments and preparing natural resources management plans, and other environmental permitting and compliance documentation. The qualified candidate will be able to demonstrate at least 2 years of progressively responsible work in providing these services.

The successful applicant will join a network of existing AECOM NEPA and Impact Assessment & Permitting specialists across the US, and will have the resources of more than 3,500 regional staff available to assist in project delivery

Duties:  

  • Performs consulting projects to scope, schedule, and budget
  • Prepares high-quality technical documents and reports in compliance with NEPA and related laws, guidance, and regulations for Federal agencies, civilian agencies, and commerical customers
  • Coordinates, manages, and directs project field and data collection efforts (e.g., natural resources, wetlands, environmental permitting and compliance)
  • Performs client visits and field activities that require work outside the office and overnight travel
  • Serves as a mentor to junior staff
  • Performs Deputy project management and proposal management activities, and participates in business development initiatives
Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, natural resources, wetlands management, planning, or an earth science-related field
  • 2+ years of work experience in related field, preferably environmental consulting
  • Specific and established experience in providing natural resources and other environmental consulting services in multiple locations
  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and teams to scope, schedule, and budget
  • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written (writing sample requested)
  • Solid report writing and organizational skills
  • Strong working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Organizational management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required. Position requires field work and candidate must be able to travel
  • Self-motivated, driven, and hard working
  • Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment
  • Strong experience with Natural Resources Management, Environmental Permitting/Compliance, and NEPA
  • Excellent and relevant references
  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required
