Graduate Intern in Bioenergy - BCS Inc.

Description:  
BCS, LLC is seeking a Graduate Intern to temporarily fill a Technical Research Analyst position from September 2018 to January 2019, dates flexible and part-time schedule available. The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a graduate program focusing on Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Microbiology, or another Bioenergy-relevant field, with some experience in research and development project execution or management and strong communication and organizational skills.  The Graduate Intern will provide direct support to federal government clients in project management and operational activities related to the research and development of advanced biofuels and bioproducts from algal biomass. This position is located in Washington, D.C.  Occasional out of town travel may be required.

Duties:  

  • Project Management Support – Assist federal clients in the management of their research and development portfolios. This includes tracking and assessing project quarterly reports, reviewing deliverables, and supporting budget management activities.
  • Analytical Support – Provide analysis of research and development progress in the bioenergy field.  Must be familiar with research on advanced algal systems for biofuels and bioproducts.  Candidate will evaluate tech-to-market potential for laboratory and bench scale processes and conduct portfolio analytics to advise clients on future activities.
  • Programmatic support – Provide a range of programmatic support including drafting presentations; attending and taking notes during project calls; drafting success stories, white papers and summary reports; and responding to quick-turnaround information requests.

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, microbiology or other fuel science or bioenergy relevant discipline. 
  • A minimum of five years’ project management experience or an advanced degree in an appropriate field (e.g., business administration, science, engineering, industrial, computer or management science).
  • Candidate must have strong understanding of bioenergy research and development.
  • The successful candidate will be client-oriented, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be a self-starter.
  • Candidate must have strong organizational skills and ability to concurrently perform quick turn-around tasks and long-term projects utilizing problem solving and time management skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and superior attention to detail are required.
  • Strong capabilities in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with SharePoint a plus.
