Green Start-up Internships at UMD

Living Canopies, a UMD environmental startup company, is in its third year of product development and second year of sales of the Living Umbrella (www.livingcanopies.com). We are looking to hire 2 interns for the Fall Semester to help with design, assembly, installs, maintenance, shipping and sales.

Interns will assist with:
  • component assembly (electronics, frames, irrigation systems),
  • umbrella installations and maintenance at Mid-Atlantic sites,
  • packaging for common carrier shipping,
  • plant care and green house maintenance at the Terp Farm in Upper Marlboro,
  • CAD drawing parts and assemblies,
  • sales calls and lead development,
  • workshop upkeep.  

Requested Skills:
  • licensed to drive and have your own transportation
  • competent in using hand tools (e.g. screwdrivers, wrenches, knives),
  • ability to use power tools (e.g., cordless drills, heat guns, drill press),
  • basic understanding of direct current electronics,
  • ability to lift 100 lbs to your waist,
  • proficient with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, Sketchup, etc),
  • familiar with plant care
  • ability to work outside for 8 hours
  • experience with making sales calls
  • ability to communicate effectively

Pay: $10.50 to $15.00 per hour dependent on experience and skill level

Work Hours: up to 10 hours per week
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday flexibility, and a rare Saturday or Sunday.
